I started out as a programmer working in the aviation field, building highly interactive and engaging content. This all came by chance, I had no idea what I wanted to do when in College, but one tutor, of which I rarely attended lessons (pssst it was Cobol) got me a job placement which I absolutely adored.
During my journey, learning has never stopped, during the Covid era I set out to learn some of the most complex tools (Houdini and Unreal Engine), and I'm so glad I did. Project Era in Unreal Engine was born which shows interactive real-time content being rendered to an almost off-line render.
I'm currently a training designer for NATS, working in the transformation programme means I can really flex my design skills. It doesn't all have to be SL blocks, GIF's, what about real-time simulation, interactive and engaging content and running in the browser.
This is where being a training designer can weave and push boundaries in Learning Design.
A little fact that only a few will know:
I once had to work a solid 48 hour shift, I even had a rotation of managers come in and sit behind me after the first all nighter to prod me if I was dropping off. That was driven by an insane deadline for a Monday morning at 10am!
I try to live by the 6P rule (p... poor planning = p... poor performance) which inevitably means a little pre-production, this ensures that your product will sing and dance.
When taking on designs, it's always nice to offer variety, depending on the task at hand there will always be a variety of lighting / different designs, this really depends on your needs.
